Trademark Registration
Requirements:
- Information of applicant: name, address, and nationality.
- Classes and specification of goods/services (10th edition of Nice CL.)
- A certified copy of the priority document. (If claiming priority);
- Classes and specification of goods/services
- Mark representation (Logo)
- A copy of the Commercial Registration or Certificate of Incorporation of the applicant (if applicant is company) with Arabic translation
- Notarized and Legalized POA up to Qatari Consulate. POA is required before filing.
Time for a trademark registration: 10 Months
Patent Registration
Requirements:
- Information of applicant: name, gender, address, p. o .box, e-mail address, phone, mobile and fax numbers and nationality
- Information of inventor (if the applicant is not the inventor): name, gender, address, p. o .box, e-mail address, phone, mobile and fax numbers and nationality
- A copy of the priority.
- Arabic and English Specification, containing (background of the invention; general description of the invention; brief description of the drawings; and detailed description. (all in word format).
- Arabic and English Abstract. (word format).
- Arabic and English Claims. (word format)
- Arabic and English Drawings. (JPG format)
- A notarized and legalized Power of Attorney up to the Qatari Consulate in the domicile of the applicant. A notarized and legalized Deed of Assignment up to the Qatari Consulate. If the names and addresses of the inventors and applicant are identical with PCT filing, there is no need for deed of assignment.
- A copy of the Certificate of Incorporation of the company.
Time for a trademark registration: 4~5 Months
Industrial Design Registration
Requirements:
- Please be advised as the implementing regulations of the law No. 10 of 2020 on the Protection of Industrial Designs. Trademarks, Commercial Indications, Trade Names, Geographical Indications, and Industrial Designs & Models Law no. 9 of 2002 has not been drafted yet, protection of Designs in Qatar is still can be sought out by publishing cautionary notices at regular intervals in local newspapers Or filing the Design as a copyright.
As an alternative measure and prior to issuance of implementing regulations of the law No. 10 of 2020, protection may be sought out by publishing cautionary notices at regular intervals in local newspapers. Though such publication is not effective as a registration and are not deposited with any government department they will help in defining the owner's interest in industrial property, announcing the ownership thereto and alerting the public against any possible infringement and could be a legal value when submitted in court, in the event of infringement, thereby claiming ownership of the design and alerting third parties against further infringement. There is no standing regulation as to when a cautionary notice should be republished.
Also, designs and models owners can obtain a legal protection of their designs and models through registration as a copyright under copyright law no. 7 of 2002 until the implementation regulations of the design law is issued and actual filing of designs is put into effect.
